
John Markette
John Markette has a successful background in the Food Service
Industry as an owner and manager. John managed Dutchess Diner in
Ansonia for 10 years in the 1970s. John then became
owner-manager of Charlie and Leon`s Restaurant, also in Ansonia,
and later the owner of the sports bar/café, John Boy's Café in
Seymour. He was a principal owner of Bowties Restaurant in
Huntington for several years.
John served in the United States Marine Corps and
is a Vietnam veteran honorably discharged at the rank of
Sergeant.
Charles Sullivan
Charles Sullivan’s extensive history in food services started
in the mid 1960’s when he owned Rapp's Canteen and Catering
Service. In 1973, Charles sold Rapp’s Canteen to begin
concentrating on banquet catering. He managed his catering
business, catering to weddings and outings for 12 years. Charlie
purchased Charlie and Leon’s restaurant in the late 1970’s with
Leon Sylvester; he later sold his share to John Marquette.
Charlie owned and operated Sully’s Café with partner Ken
Schaible for 5 years in the early 90’s.
Until opening John J. Sullivan’s in 2006, Charlie worked as the
Chief of Administrative Support Services at the Connecticut
Valley Hospital (CVH) a State Psychiatric facility, managing the
Hospital Food Service program that feeds 2,400 meals per day and
caters many Special Events. Charlie also began a
patient¬-vocational program called the "Valley View Cafe." This
cafe provides a paid work program for patients and contributes
to the Patient Activity Fund.
Charlie is very active in the local community, including being
President and over 30 year board member of the Lower Naugatuck
Valley Boys and Girls Club, a 30 year board member of the
"Recreation Camp for Youngsters" in Derby, the Derby-Shelton
Rotary Club, past director of the Housatonic Boys Scout Council,
past member of the Valley Chamber of Commerce, participant in
the Middletown Mentor Program, past president of the Highland
Golf Club, and past member of the Board of Directors of Shelton
Savings and Loan.
