WEDDING IDEAS
We love meeting brides and grooms who are looking forward to customizing their wedding decor. Luckily at John J. Sullivan's our venue spaces are fantastic blank palettes - if you can dream it, we can most likely accommodate it.

Who says your wedding has to be matchy-matchy?
I always love attending weddings to gather ideas and bring them back to the brides/grooms of John J. Sullivan’s.
This past week I had the pleasure of attending a Somona Valley wedding at Kunde Winery in California.
The bride and groom are a laid back pair and I could tell their main goal of their wedding was for everyone to feel comfortable and have a lovely evening. This translated well into their wedding party attire. The bride asked the bridesmaids to simply pick a pink dress in any shade and style that suited their skin coloring and body shape. The groomsmen were told to wear any suit they so desired, but were each given a pink tie designed specifically for this wedding.
The cocktail hour consisted of wine from Kunde, a few chosen spirits such as Grey Goose vodka, sparkling flavored water for the non-drinkers, and chocolate milk for the children which being the mom of one of them made me smile at their thoughtfulness.

The dinner menu consisted of buffet stations which added to a lot of guest interaction. We can certainly do something similar at John J. Sullivans. Their stations were:
Portabella mushroom or beef sliders with toppings
French fries
Fried Mac ‘n Cheese balls
Baked Mac’ n Cheese with assorted toppings
Caesar Salad
Bread salad
Grilled Vegetables
Skirt steak
Dessert was assorted cupcakes – my favorite being the dark chocolate one filled with caramel and topped with dark chocolate frosting and a sprinkle of sea salt!
My take away: Think outside the box. It’s your wedding day. Who says it has to be traditional?
Cheers,
Caroline

as one of the ugliest they've seen, but I kind of think it looks A) Clever and B) totally Delish! I could probably do without the cake topper though.

Recently we were flipping through the new issue of Brides CT magazine and came across some scrumptious wedding favor ideas. Food favors are always welcomed by guests, and it doesn't have to be your run of the mill chocolates either. Here are some ideas we found inspiring that are easily found online, in the NYC area or could be recreated by our local candy and bakery artisans.

Recently we met with a couple who is interested in a more cocktail reception on our patio with a, DIY - homespun style wedding including hues of tangerine orange and lime green. After listening to their ideas, we were excited about what they would ultimately decide to bring in for decor.
We like the idea of inspiration boards....and have fun doing them ourselves too. Based on this couple's ideas, we took the liberty of pulling ideas from various wedding websites.
Highlights:
Candle Mason Jars with Lime green ribbons for centerpieces (which also double as favors).
Parasols and vintage round bulb lights to string from inside the roof of our patio tent.
Oragami orange paper for guests to write their well wishes.
White cake that looks rolled in orange crushed hard candy
Bright orange and green bouqets.
Long, tangerine flowing bridesmaid dresses.
